Deborah McKendrick

Deborah is a designer in costume, fashion and art.

Launching from a background of Graphic Design, she found an easy transition into the world of fashion, utilising her interest in photography and illustration.

There she carved out a successful career in the fashion industry, best known for being the co-creator of cult label ‘Eldorado’, opening a shop in King St and more recently as creative director for her own label ‘Velvet Sushi, Luxury Loungewear’.

Her costume career first came into the light with the success of ‘Chrissie Parrott’s Coppelia’ for the West Australian Ballet Co., for which she was nominated Best Costume Designer in the Helpmann Awards and was presented on ABC’s ‘Masterpiece’. Deborah has continued to collaborate with Chrissie on many productions including ‘Tower’.

Other commissions include Festival of Perth, PIAF, Stalker Theatre Marrugeku Theatre for ‘Mimi Spirit’, Olympic Arts Festival of Dreaming in Sydney, Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre, Link Dance Co., and many independent companies.

As an artist she received high distinctions in her studies at Edith Cowan University and continues to develop her artwork through portraiture and figurative painting.

Deborah is continually delighted in bringing her knowledge and skill together to create works of exceptional quality, inventiveness and a ‘ joie de vivre’.
